Field Testing
ASTM E1105 — Water Penetration Under Uniform or Cyclic Static Air Pressure
ASTM E1105 is the industry benchmark field test for water penetration of installed windows, skylights, doors, and curtain walls. A test chamber applies uniform or cyclic static air pressure while calibrated spray racks wet the assembly.
What it measures
Water penetration of an installed assembly under controlled air-pressure differential and a calibrated water-spray rate.
When to use it
The default when you need defensible proof of whether an installed assembly leaks — new construction QA, forensic investigation, or litigation support.
Frequently asked
- What pressure is used for ASTM E1105?
- A project-specified static pressure differential, typically a fraction of the design pressure; the spray rate is a calibrated 5.0 US gal/ft²·hr.
- Can E1105 be run in the field?
- Yes — FTL performs E1105 on installed assemblies on-site across Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.
