Field Testing
AAMA 501.2 — Field Check of Metal Curtain Walls for Water Leakage
AAMA 501.2 is a field spray-nozzle test that checks fixed, non-operable exterior glazing systems — metal curtain walls, storefronts, and sloped glazing — for water leakage at fixed joints and gaskets.
What it measures
Water leakage at sealed, non-operable joints under a calibrated water-spray nozzle.
When to use it
Used on fixed curtain-wall and storefront glazing to confirm the sealed joinery is watertight. Not for operable windows or doors — use AAMA 502 for those.
Frequently asked
- What does AAMA 501.2 test?
- Fixed, non-operable curtain wall and sloped glazing joints for water leakage using a calibrated spray nozzle.
- How is it different from ASTM E1105?
- AAMA 501.2 uses a directed spray nozzle on fixed joints; E1105 applies a chamber with controlled air pressure across the whole assembly, including operable units.
